Fire Control

"The principle of Fire extinguishing revolve around removing one or more elements of the Fire Triangle".

The Fundamental Principles and methods of Fire extinguishing.

  Methods of Fire Extinguishing

Remove Heat(Cooling)

Reducing the temperature below the ignition point can extinguish a fire.

This is typically done with water or other cooling agent(don't use water to extinguish class k fires).

Remove Fuel(Elimination)

Removing the combustible materials that are sustaining the fire will help extinguish it.

This may involve clearing away flammable materials or shutting off the fuel supply(turning off the gas supply in a gas fire)

Remove Oxygen

Smothering by covering the fire or using extinguishing agent that displace oxygen.

You can starve the fire from the oxygen it needs to burn(fire blanket and foam extinguisher).

Chemical Reaction Control

Certain extinguishing agent can interrupt the chemical reaction occurring during combustion.

These agents often release substances that inhibits flames propagation(Halon Suppression System release halogenated agents that disrupts the chemical reaction involved in burning.

Using Fire Extinguisher

Using the right extinguisher for the fire type, using the wrong type can be ineffective and even dangerous.

Evaluate the Size and Intensity

Small fires can often be handled with a portable extinguisher while large fires may require evacuation and professional fire fighting assistance.

Safety First

Always prioritize personal safety and evacuation of a fire is out of control.

Fire Alarm System

Install smoke alarm in workplaces and homes with heat detectors.

Use heat detectors where smoke alarms could cause falm alarms

Install water sprinkler system in commercial and residential building for enhanced fire suppression.
